Aiming for the "34C"?  NIO ET5 is ready!

Is the NIO ET5's rival the Tesla Model 3?

Is the NIO ET5's rival the Tesla Model 3?

To be honest, the ET5's most direct rival is not the Tesla Model 3, either in terms of price or luxury, the only thing that can be compared is the identity of the new power and the power of pure electricity. So I think, for the ET5, the market it wants to target is the "34C" of the traditional powerhouse.

The ET5 does not have too many complicated lines in its design, whether it is the waistline or the sliding back style, it gives a simple and smooth feeling.

In the front, the vehicle still has the familiar NIO design, with the X-shaped lights with the air inlet below, which is quite a bit like a "biting shark". If there is a controversial point about the vehicle's value, it is probably the "horns" on the top of the head, which are really special because of the LIDAR and camera.

The ET5 is 4790/1960/1499mm in length, width and height, with a wheelbase of 2888mm. The vehicle is available in nine colors, so it can easily meet different consumers' needs for individuality.

The rear is the most attractive part of the ET5. The sliding back design makes the rear of the vehicle look very full, and the running tail lights make it even more dynamic.

Of course, I think this is not the peak of the ET5, there are many spy photos of the ET5 Touring version on the internet recently, I believe that the car will be the peak of the ET5's face.

NIO ET5 interior: Configuration called a luxury electric car

The interior style of the ET5 continues the design of the ET7, which in summary is simple and elegant. But it is precisely this simplicity that gives a sense of premium. Firstly, the materials used, the Nappa leather covering on the center console and the microfiber velvet on the roof ensure a basic sense of premium, followed by the rubber-like and fabric-like material splicing on the door panels, which is unique and gives a taste of a concept car, and ET5 does use more environmentally friendly materials for its interior. The amount used is equivalent to recycling 100 standard PET plastic bottles.

NIO ET5 seats are integrated seats, and the test car model is equipped with the optional "Comfort Package", which has functions including massage and ventilation, etc. Although the wrapping is not particularly strong, the overall comfort is still guaranteed.

Of course, the debate about the ET5 seat, sitting height is the most said, especially compared with the BYD Seal, that the two hip point does not look very different, but I have driven both cars, in terms of intuitive feeling, the Seal really feel lower, ET5 compared to ordinary electric sedan will be a little higher, but, about the sitting posture of the good or bad, I think, for not tall, or more like However, I think that for female consumers who are not tall, or prefer to have an open view, it is an advantage, but for consumers who are more than 180cm tall, I personally suggest to actually experience it.

As for the performance of other configurations, in a day's experience, did not find anything special, in line with the level of this price should have, whether the sound quality of the audio, the texture of the ambient light, the smoothness of the central control screen, are good performance, called luxury.

The final space performance, first of all, the perception, because of the canopy support, it is okay, the seat comfort is also passable, the only relatively unacceptable backrest angle is straight, which does affect the ride to a certain extent.

NIO ET5 Driving Experience: Wins over Model 3 and G70

The ET5's driving performance is praised by many people, and this is also the point that I am most concerned about in this test drive.

First of all, the first not so sporty point is the steering; during the same period when I test drove the ET5, I briefly drove the G70 from GENESIS, and a simple comparison between the two cars will show you that the ET5 is far less direct and sensitive than the G70 in terms of steering sensitivity, pointing and lap difference. Of course, here is not to say that the ET5's steering feel is not good, the vehicle steering wheel damping, proportional sense is actually very comfortable, just not the kind of real sports to the tuning, and if it is a daily driver, in fact, I will prefer the ET5 to give me the feeling of more relaxed.

As for the performance of the chassis, in daily driving, it is between Model 3 and Corsair, or directly speaking, it is my favorite feeling in the three cars, because Model 3 is stiff for me, while Corsair gives you a feeling of some extra sway when facing some jumps, ET5 is exactly in the middle between the two, with texture but not jumping.

Regarding the ET5's sporty performance, friends who like the ultimate driving control may find it shallow, but for most people, buying a car with more than 300,000 yuan, a performance with texture but not too sensitive is the real "luxury".

Editor's Summary

Aiming at the "34C" of traditional luxury, does the NIO ET5 deliver? At least in terms of appearance and interior aesthetics, it offers consumers a very different choice, and this choice is not inferior in terms of seniority; as for driving control, it is also not inferior in terms of daily driving. Or directly do a multiple choice question, in the "34C" and ET5 to choose a car, in my personal needs, may only 3 series will make me more hesitant.
