Do the actual plug-in models AITO M5 compared to the latte DHT-PHEV which is more worth buying?

The other day, Wei CEO Li Ruifeng said publicly on social networks that "the backwardness of the hybrid technology is the industry consensus", thus triggering a furor and a discussion about the hybrid technology route in the industry.

In fact, in my opinion, regardless of whether the technical route is backward or not, for consumers to be able to solve specific needs can be accepted, the car market is originally a hundred flowers, a hundred schools of thought, from the technical point of view alone to analyze, or from the product, side to compare.

This time we have selected two products in the limelight, respectively, Wei brand latte DHT-PHEV (Photo|Configuration|Inquiry) and AITO M5 (Photo|Configuration|Inquiry), both are plug-in hybrid models, the former is the DHT route, while the latter is the incremental route, product positioning also has some overlap, are mainly family products. So, who is the better product power of these two models? Today I will compare them in detail from all aspects.

Shape comparison.

In terms of shape, the front of the Latte DHT-PHEV is designed with a hexagonal grille, decorated with a chrome mesh structure inside, very recognizable; the headlights on both sides are blacked out, with lenses and daytime running lights integrated inside, the style is more refined.

The lower part of the surround adopts a three-stage design style, with large deflector slots on both sides and fog lamps integrated inside; the middle part adopts a trapezoidal air inlet design, which is a mainstream design style at present.

The front of the M5 is obviously more aggressive, with a large mouth grille decorated with a horizontal structure, very hierarchical; both sides of the grille are also equipped with a vertical layout of the deflector, to further enhance the sense of movement; the headlights are smoked black treatment, the internal integration of the LED light source, the style is sharper.

The rear of the DHT-PHEV is blacked out, echoing the front headlights, and is very recognizable when lit up; the trapezoidal license plate frame is concave, embellishing the rear of the car's hierarchy; the lower bracket also has a bit of a three-part design and is embellished with a running chrome strip, and the exhaust pipes are hidden.

The rear of the M5 adopts the popular through-tail lamp design, which effectively stretches the horizontal visual width of the rear; the license plate frame is located in the lower part of the surround, which also adopts a concave design and creates a diffuser shape at the bottom, making the style seem more aggressive.

AITO M5 interior

The interior of both models is actually relatively simple style, full LCD instrument panel, multi-function steering wheel, electronic gear knob, and suspended center screen are not absent, technology to create a sense of place.

In terms of the central control screen, the M5 is equipped with the Hongmeng Cockpit, the regular online navigation, voice recognition, cell phone remote connection, and online audio and video functions are not absent, and thanks to the Hongmeng system, the smooth of the operation and the animation effect of the interface performance is relatively outstanding.

The smoothness of the DHT-PHEV center control screen is not bad, online navigation, voice recognition, cell phone remote interconnection, online video, and other functions are not absent, but there is still a gap in the simplicity of the UI compared to the M5, which can only be said to meet the needs, but there are not many surprises.

Space comparison.

Size, latte DHT-PHEV length, and width are 4668/1890/1730mm, wheelbase is 2745mm, positioning is compact SUV.

The length, width, and height of the M5 are 4770/1930/1625mm, with a wheelbase of 2880mm, positioning it as a mid-size SUV.

In terms of size, the M5 has a certain advantage, with a longer body and wheelbase, but in terms of space, the difference between the two models is not really large.

A 1.7m tall passenger riding in the back of both the M5 and the Latte DHT-PHEV has legroom of more than 2 fists, which is fine for everyday family needs. The rear bulge of the M5 is slightly smaller than that of the Latte DHT-PHEV, but the Latte DHT-PHEV is clever in that it creates a curve in the bulge, forming a pedal-like design that is ergonomic, so it does not have a significant impact on the comfort of passengers in the middle of the rear row.

For the space comparison, AITO the M5 because of the larger size, so the rear legroom is slightly advantageous, but because the roof with a little sliding back line, head space performance is not as good as the latte DHT-PHEV. two space performances can meet the daily family needs, and the rear row of three passengers will not feel crowded.

Power Comparison.

Both the Latte DHT-PHEV and the M5 are available in two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive versions, and both are equipped with plug-in hybrid systems, but the difference is that the Latte DHT-PHEV's plug-in hybrid system has both series and parallel modes, while the M5's extended-range hybrid system has only series mode.

By comparison, we can see that the maximum power of the add-on series system can only depend on the maximum power of the electric motor, while the combined maximum power of the parallel hybrid system can basically be considered as the sum of the power of the engine and the electric motor.

However, in terms of parameters, the motor parameters of the M5 4WD version have a clear advantage, the fastest 4.4 seconds to break 100 compared to the Latte DHT-PHEV 5.2 seconds to break 100.

In terms of energy consumption, the two-wheel-drive version of the M5 has a fuel consumption of 6.4L/100km and the four-wheel-drive version has a fuel consumption of 6.69L or 6.78L/100km, while the two-wheel-drive version of the latte has a fuel consumption of 5.4L/100km and the four-wheel-drive version has a fuel consumption of 6.2L/100km. In terms of pure electric range, the difference in performance between the two is not large, and the pure electric range of more than 150km can meet the daily commuting needs, and if there are conditions to install charging piles, the cost of using the car will be compressed to a relatively low level.

In fact, in the urban area, when the power is sufficient, both of them are mainly pure electric, and there will not be too obvious difference; but if there is no condition to install a charging pile, the extended range technology is more suitable to cope with this kind of stop-and-go road conditions, and the engine will always work in the efficient range, with a relatively excellent fuel economy performance.

However, under high-speed conditions, the advantages of the DHT parallel system are more obvious, as the engine drives the vehicle directly in the high-efficiency range, and there is a 2-speed transmission as an aid, which has better fuel economy performance than the extended-range system.

Summary

Whether it's the M5 or the DHT-PHEV, from my point of view, they are both worth considering as family SUVs within 300,000 yuan, both are more comprehensive in terms of comfort and safety features, space and configuration can also meet family needs, compared to the DHT-PHEV price are relatively more affordable.

In terms of the hybrid system, AITO M5's hybrid system is basically dedicated to urban working conditions, in the case of low-speed stop-and-go, to ensure better fuel economy. The Latte DHT-PHEV has a DHT hybrid system that takes into account both series and parallel conditions and will have excellent fuel consumption in the city and at highway speeds.

Therefore, in simple terms, if you usually take the city as the main, almost do not run highway, choose to AITO M5 is no problem; but if the usual car conditions are more complex, especially high-speed conditions will be more, relatively speaking, or DHT hybrid system is more practical, in this case, I recommend the latte DHT-PHEV.
