NIO ES8 vs Volvo XC90 vs Tesla Model X, which one is the winner?

As a luxury SUV, how much range will satisfy you?

After the subsidy era, how consumers should choose products, for each manufacturer, product power to build and where to go? In fact, the answer has long been revealed - adhere to the high-end, do excellent products, in order to break out of the dilemma. From the 2019 core pure electric vehicle sales, it is the NIO and Tesla that are leading the way in the luxury market.

Undoubtedly, what consumers really need is an electric car that is good to drive and good to use - long enough range, luxury configuration, comfortable driving experience and advanced smart technology. And that may mean that pure electric cars have the strength to compete head-to-head with traditional fuel cars. As a result, we have selected the NIO ES8, Tesla Model X and Volvo XC90 for comparison. If you are interested in mid-size luxury SUVs, don't miss these three products.

As a luxury SUV, how much range will satisfy you?

First, let's look at the electric car range that has been criticized. 2020, we find that more and more pure electric cars are starting to move into the 600 km range NEDC service range level. And according to the National Information Center, the range of pure electric vehicles to 500 km can meet the needs of 90% of users, 600 km can basically meet the needs of all consumers with cars. So, for those consumers who are concerned about electric cars, the minus point that was once the biggest worry is now no longer needed to be overly anxious.

Just in time for 2020, the new NIO ES8 was officially launched on NIO Day with a new pre-subsidy starting price of 468,000 yuan. The new ES8 has an edgy, technological design that retains the inherent impression of the car while making a breakthrough in electric vehicle design. The new "X-BAR" design is sharper, and the chrome trim and skyline high-mounted brake lights enrich the overall sense of hierarchy and further enhance the NIO brand recognition. The NIO ES8 is 5022/1962/1756mm in length, width and height, with a wheelbase of 3010mm, the longest of the three vehicles.

Volvo XC90 has a unique Scandinavian temperament unlike luxury brands such as BBA, with a minimalist design style that combines luxury and technology in one. As a traditional luxury mid-size SUV, XC90's body dimensions are 4953/1958/1776mm with a wheelbase of 2984mm, which is a bit more compact compared to the NIO ES8. But the XC90 discounted terminal starting price is less than 500,000 yuan, perhaps from the price level XC90 and NIO ES8 is the real rival.

Tesla Model X is the world's first medium to large pure electric SUV, and its starting price is almost twice that of the NIO ES8. model X extends the Tesla family design language, the overall is more like pulling high version of the Model S, electric car closed front face once also controversial, body dimensions are 5037/2070/1684mm, wheelbase is 2965mm. and The novel gull-wing door design has won a lot of people's hearts for it.

The Volvo XC90, which has a longer history, clearly has its own unique understanding and expression of the overall design of the cabin. The simple Scandinavian design demonstrates Volvo's interpretation of a luxury flagship. The combination of solid wood and leather is both pure and elegant, and with the immersive seven-seat design, the second and third rows of seats are slightly higher than the front, allowing each passenger to receive more attention. In terms of overall intelligence, the XC90's center screen and full LCD instrumentation are large enough and clear to display, but are far inferior to the two pure electric models in terms of both UI interface design and functionality.

NIO is the youngest of the three brands, but has a maturity and competitiveness that does not match its "age". The "Driver Care" design concept combines luxury comfort and technology avant-garde, more luxurious than Tesla and more technological than XC90. The entire system is equipped with "Queen's Co-Driver", air suspension, and NOMI intelligent voice interaction system as standard. The Microfiber microfiber headliner, intelligent fragrance system and Nappa leather cladding are also available as options for the base version. Lower price, but more luxurious and comfortable flagship product experience.

NIO ES8 has an inherent performance advantage over Tesla Model X and Volvo XC90NIO ES8 interior

Volvo XC90 has T5, T6 and T8 powertrains all equipped with 2.0T engines, of which the main model T6 version has a maximum of 320 hp and peak torque of 400 Nm, with acceleration of 6.5 seconds per 100 km. Although compared to traditional fuel cars this set of data is not bad, but compared to the NIO and Tesla is really not enough to see.

The new NIO ES8 is equipped with a front 160 kW high-efficiency permanent magnet synchronous motor and a rear 240 kW high-performance induction asynchronous motor, with a total power of 400 kW and a total torque of 725 Nm, accelerating to 100 km in just 4.9 seconds. Although slightly down compared to the old model, the range has been significantly improved. In addition, the power response is optimized by upgrading the integrated half-shaft. The new NIO ES8 can have a NEDC range of 580 km with the new 100-degree battery pack.

The Model X long-range version, priced at 810,000 yuan, also uses a combination of front permanent magnet and rear asynchronous motors, with a total power of 487 kW, a total torque of 844 Nm, an official 100 km acceleration of 4.6 seconds and a NEDC range of 575 km, similar to that of the NIO ES8. However, Tesla does not support power exchange and battery pack upgrades, and the current domestic Tesla supercharging pile electricity price has been as high as 2 yuan / degree, in terms of charging efficiency and economy has no advantage.

The NIO ES8 also pioneers the industry-leading intelligent electric architecture. The NIO OS system, NIO Pilot and NOMI can be upgraded via FOTA. And NIO has the advantage of being the host and knows what the country needs better than Tesla. In addition to the battery pack, the 9.8-inch narrow digital instrument cluster and 11.3-inch HD touch screen can be upgraded at a later date.

The NIO ES8, Tesla Model X and Volvo XC90 are all stars in the luxury mid-size SUV market, and each has its own strengths and weaknesses. Volvo XC90 has excellent product quality, cost performance and brand influence, which is a good choice for consumers who are used to traditional fuel cars. The Tesla Model X has the industry's leading technology and a unique design, but its high price and unique design are destined to be the choice of only a few. The NIO ES8 is a combination of both, combining the luxury of a traditional fuel car with the innate technological appeal of an electric car at almost half the price of the Model X. In addition, NIO' s "rechargeable, replaceable and upgradeable" user concept basically eliminates the anxiety about range and the cost of subsequent use of the car. For this five-year-old car company, it may take more time to grow, but the original intent of the user company has not changed.
