Priced at 229,800 yuan, minus the seat function, the engine for a new, 2023 Golf GTI launched

A few days ago, FAW-Volkswagen brand officially listed and released the 2023 Golf GTI, the official guide price of the new car is 229,800 yuan. Compared to the 2021 Golf GTI, the new car's price, appearance and interior have not been adjusted, only a new model of engine has been installed and the passenger seat lumbar adjustment function has been reduced.

In fact, the Golf GTI version has always been known for its "high performance", but it has been relatively niche because of its high price and low practicality. With the "booming" of pure electric models, the Golf GTI's advantages in terms of performance have been affected. Today I brought the 2022 460km 4WD Triumph MG MULAN, with an official guide price of 186,800 yuan, to compare with the 2023 Golf GTI to see which model is worth getting?

Appearance comparison

First of all, in terms of appearance, the Golf GTI has a new GTI exclusive appearance package on the basis of the regular Golf, and is equipped with matrix LED headlights and daytime running lights. The front of the car is equipped with a red trim strip running through the front and the exclusive GTI logo, highlighting the identity of the high-performance model. The sides of the car are also equipped with the GTI logo, and are equipped with 18-inch sports wheels and red brake calipers. The body is equipped with a bilateral dual-exit sports exhaust and dynamic LED taillights, which looks quite sporty.

The MG MULAN's exterior design also adopts a sporty design style, with a closed center mesh design at the front and a low front end design, together with a sporty front surround and sharp headlights, it looks quite sporty. The side of the car is also equipped with 18-inch sports wheels and orange brake calipers, and the side skirt area is decorated with black trim to enhance the sense of movement. The rear of the car is equipped with running tail lights and a two-segment sports tailgate, which has a better overall visual effect.

In terms of body dimensions, the 2023 Golf GTI model has a body length, width and height of 4296/1788/1471mm and a wheelbase of 2631mm; the 2022 460km 4WD Triumph MG MULAN has a body length, width and height of 4287/1836/1516mm and a wheelbase of 2705mm. In comparison, the length of Golf GTI is more dominant, while the width, height and wheelbase of MG MULAN are more dominant.

Interior Comparison

The Golf GTI's interior features Volkswagen's usual layout style and is equipped with an exclusive sport-style interior that features cut-through air vents, a three-spoke sports steering wheel, 30-color interior ambient lighting, steering wheel shift paddles, electronic shifter and metal sport pedals, and more. It also comes with a 10.25-inch full LCD instrument cluster and a 10-inch center screen that supports CarLife, CarPlay, Telematics, language recognition control system and an app store.

The interior of MG MULAN is designed with a relatively simple layout. The car is equipped with a two-spoke multifunction steering wheel made of tumbled leather and through-air vents, as well as a 7-inch full LCD instrument panel and a 10.25-inch center control screen, which supports features such as Telematics, OTA upgrades, language recognition control system and Wi-Fi hotspot. In contrast, although the MG MULAN's interior is relatively simple, it lacks a sense of movement and has a smaller center screen. The Golf GTI has a better interior atmosphere, but the shift lever area has a strong sense of plastic.

Intelligent safety configuration comparison

Both models are equipped with lane departure warning, active braking, lane keeping assist, back-up camera, full-speed adaptive cruise control and L2 assisted driving level. The Golf GTI is also equipped with reverse car side warning, lane assist, lane centering, fatigue driving enhancement and road traffic sign recognition; the MG MULAN is equipped with an additional 360° panoramic image.

Power Comparison

For a high-performance model, power is the main thing. 2023 Golf GTI is equipped with a model DTJ 2.0T turbo engine with a maximum power of 220hp and 350N-m torque, the transmission system matches a wet 7-speed dual clutch transmission and requires 95# gasoline, the 100km acceleration time is 7.2 seconds and the WLTC combined fuel consumption is 6.8L/100km. /Compared to the 2021 Golf GTI, although the power parameters have not changed, the 2021 model is equipped with a 2.0T turbocharged engine model DKX, with a 100km acceleration time of 7.1 seconds and a NEDC fuel consumption of 6.7L/100km.

2022 460km 4WD Triumph Edition MG MULAN is equipped with dual front and rear permanent magnet/synchronous electric motors with a total power of 428hp and a total torque of 600N-m, and an official acceleration time of 3.8 seconds for 100km. It is also equipped with a ternary lithium battery pack with a battery capacity of 64kWh and a pure electric range of 460KM from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, which supports fast charging and external discharge. In comparison, MG MULAN's acceleration is faster, and as a pure electric model, its future maintenance costs will be a bit lower.

The end of writing

Overall, the 2023 Golf GTI has not changed much, compared with MG MULAN, its interior design and intelligent safety equipment are superior, but the price is high, and the power and economy of the car are not as good as MG MULAN. Under the market situation, will you still choose to buy the 2023 Golf GTI at a high price for the sake of "sentiment"?
