Classic reborn Toyota AE86 concept car unveiled: pure electricity / hydrogen energy two power options

At the Tokyo Tuning Show, Toyota officially presented its AE86 concept car, which is available in an electric version as well as a hydrogen fuel cell version, giving this classic car an alternative rebirth.

Although it has nearly 40 years of history, the AE86 is still a "god-like" existence in the hearts of enthusiasts, after all, there are not many existing cars in good condition, and the "Fujiwara Tofu Shop" has also greatly increased the AE86's popularity among ordinary users. The "Fujiwara Tofu Shop" has also greatly increased the popularity of the AE86 among the general public.

The pure electric concept car is based on the Corolla Levin version, the shape of the car completely follows the design style of the year, can be said to be the original.

In terms of power, the new car is a bit of a "hodgepodge", with a drive motor from the Toyota Tundra Hybrid, a battery pack from the Toyota Prius, parts of the triple electric system from Lexus, and a manual gearbox from the GR 86.

Equipping an electric car with a manual transmission is not a first for Toyota, but it symbolizes Toyota's exploration of driving pleasure in electric cars, but unfortunately the specific power parameters were not announced.

The hydrogen energy concept, on the other hand, is based on the Sprinter Treno body style. The classic jump lamp is a very recognizable design style, so the performance in terms of sportiness is a bit stronger than the pure electric version.

In terms of power, the new car is equipped with the classic 4A-GEU engine, but for its injectors, fuel pipes and spark plugs have been adjusted so as to meet the needs of the hydrogen fuel system; two hydrogen storage tanks are located at the rear of the car, and specific power and range information has not been announced.

Inside, both models follow the center console design of the AE86, with little technology to speak of and both full of age; however, the seats are in a one-piece sporty style, and the seats and seat belts are made of renewable materials.

In theory, these two models have a certain market, but Toyota has not announced plans for mass production, so look forward to Toyota's surprises.
