The new Tang DM-i: the pure electric range is broken 250 km, do not have to worry about high gas prices can not afford the car?

With the official pre-sale of BYD Tang DM family models, the price of Tang DM series models unsurprisingly stands at a new high point as well as Tang EV, even the DM-i model, which was previously known for its pro-people and cost-effectiveness, now has a pre-sale price of 282,800 yuan. However, its pure-electric range is no longer just 100 kilometers like the old Tang DM-i, with a pure electric range of 215 kilometers. The fuel consumption of 5.5 liters per 100 kilometers of loss of electricity and the NEDC combined range of 1,200 kilometers will undoubtedly enable it to further reduce the cost of using the car. After all, when gas prices continue to break through the previous "ceiling", the plug-in hybrid models that can run on pure electricity seem to be able to play its strengths.

In addition to the higher price and pure electric range, the Tang DM-i also has some changes in terms of features. For example, it is equipped with HUD, Danner audio, independent rear air conditioning, and suspension soft and hard adjustment functions, and the seat function has increased a lot of optional features compared to the old model, which shows that the new Tang DM-i pays more attention to comfort performance. However, there is almost no difference in appearance and power from the old model. The front face still has the same horizontal chrome trim as the old Tang DM-i, and the body also maintains a square design, which is obviously not as fresh as the DM-p model. The power part is still the same as before with the 1.5T engine with a maximum power of 160kW front single motor, and the acceleration is 8.5 seconds per 100km, which is also not as outstanding as the performance of the DM-p model. However, you can see that it is aimed at economy and comfort, and will be more suitable for the family than the DM-p model. But the price is about 60,000 yuan more expensive than the old Tang DM-i Premium, so can you still save money on car maintenance? How big is the difference? Let's analyze it with respect to insurance, maintenance, and electricity consumption.

The new model is more expensive, and the average annual insurance cost is about 6 hundred higher?

The new Tang DM-i is only available in one model this time, with a pre-sale price of 282,800 yuan. After purchasing the three main types of insurance, namely 3 million triple liability, car damage, and compulsory insurance, it has the first-year premium of about 6,850 yuan. If there is no accident during the later use, the premium will be further reduced, and we calculate with the standard premium of 20% discount in the second year and 30% discount in the third year, the total cost of insurance for three years is about 17,120 yuan, averaging about 5,700 yuan a year. Because the plug-in hybrid is defined as a new energy model, it also saves a purchase tax cost. This 3 million triple liability is about 2,200 yuan, car damage insurance reference price close to the old Tang DM 2.0T 4WD performance version of the Genesis flagship, about 3,550 yuan, while the traffic insurance is 1,100 yuan. The actual insurance cost needs to be determined by the actual situation of the local insurance company.

And there are two models of the old Tang DM-i, of which the Premium Edition is relatively more richly equipped and closer to the performance of the new Tang DM-i because we use this car as the object of calculation of the insurance cost of the old Tang DM-i. Again after purchasing the three main types of insurance: 3 million triple liability, car damage, and compulsory insurance, it has the first-year premium of about 6,180 yuan. With the same no accident, the insurance cost decreases year by year, the premium required for three years is about 15,450 yuan, and the average annual premium is about 5,150 yuan. You can see that there is an average difference of about 600 yuan per year in insurance costs between the two, mainly because the price of the car is directly linked to the insurance, and the higher price makes the new Tang DM-i's insurance higher as well.

Both are 1.5T + motor, with no difference in maintenance

In the maintenance section, although the new Tang DM-i has a greater range compared to the old model, the powertrain remains the same as the old model, so whether through the powder form or the official manual, their maintenance intervals and parts replacement frequency are the same.

According to BYD's official maintenance manual, the first maintenance for the Tang DM-i model is performed at 3500 km or 6 months (whichever comes first), including a free routine inspection and oil and filter replacement. After that, every 7,500 kilometers or 12 months, you need to perform offline maintenance, in addition to each maintenance to check or replace the oil filter and air conditioning filter, every 15,000 kilometers you need to replace the brake fluid, antifreeze, etc., every 22,500 kilometers you need to replace the fuel filter every 30,000 kilometers you need to replace the spark plugs, air filter, gear oil replacement frequency is very low, generally only every 60,000 kilometers. Need to replace every 60,000 kilometers can be. We take the average family three years driving 60,000 km cycle, they three years of maintenance costs about 7400 yuan, an average of about 2460 yuan per year.

The new model has a longer range and can be used as a pure electric SUV?

As a plug-in model, both the new and old Tang DM-i can be used as a pure tram for short distances to a certain extent, but for the sake of easy calculation, we use it as a fuel car to use the fuel consumption situation for fuel cost estimation. The official fuel consumption is 5.5L/100km, but the actual fuel consumption may be different due to driving style and road conditions, which may lead to a certain difference in fuel cost.

With fuel consumption of 5.5L/100Km and the current 92 gasoline soaring to 9.2 RMB/L, the fuel cost of Tang DM-i is about 30,360 RMB for a three-year driving cycle of 60,000 km, and the average monthly fuel cost is about 840 RMB. In this way, there seems to be little difference between the two in terms of fuel cost, but in fact, because the new Tang DM-i has a pure electric range of 252km, 140km more than the old Tang DM-i, so with more electric drive, the new Tang DM-i is lower than the old one in terms of fuel cost.

At the same time, because its pure-electric range is already as high as 252km, it is possible to travel as a pure tram. If you look at it as a pure electric SUV, the official power consumption is 23.5kWh/100km. we use the current household electricity consumption of about 0.56 yuan a degree to calculate, we can get when the user has a charging post at home, it needs about 7900 yuan for three years, an average of about 220 yuan per month.

Summary

Adding up the maintenance cost, insurance cost, and electricity cost, we can calculate that the total cost of care for the new Tang DM-i is about RMB 32,420 for three years of driving 60,000km, which is about RMB 900 per month on average. The main reason for such a low cost of ownership is that some families with home charging piles have been able to use it as a pure electric SUV. The older Tang DM-i Premium model, on the other hand, has a total cost of car use of about 53,210 yuan for three years, or about 1,470 yuan per month on average. Looking at it this way, the difference in their car costs can be more than 600 yuan. Even though the new Tang DM-i has a higher insurance cost, it can still be the more economical one with pure electric driving.
